What if humans evolved into a three sex race?

What would this do to the idea of marriage and partnership? Would a relationship only consist of two people? Would new relationships have the potential to be three people, one of each sex?

Would there still be laws against same sex marriages?

Imagine how complex the YAGTs would get!

What if they became hermaphrodites? Would masturbation qualify as fornication? Would stupid rhetorical questions still be asked?

How exactly would that work? I have a thing that fits insider a girl's thing. If there was another sex called a "wookie," what would it have?

Humans have no concept on what a "3rd sex" might entail. In fact, there is no scientific justification for it. Even thinking about what a "3rd sex" might be like makes me feel more stupid.

In other words. This thread is dumb

you ppl should take an anthro class.
there are places that have a "3rd gender" (this is gender, not sex. Gender=is how the culture defines difference and expectations of each sex. there really is only 2 biological sexes of course)

/intelligence

Why couldn't three or more beings be married to each other?
I'm not talking polygamy, per se, but rather all partners have 2 other partners... regardless of gender or even species, lol.

Hi, I'm Napoleon and here are my partners, Deb and Tina, each of whom I love equally.

You may want to turn that intelligence switch back on and learn how to read the original post. It was a question of the cultural impact of a biological evolution of a third sex.

I always get a good laugh when internet posers attempt to belittle others yet themselves are in error.

Im going to try to write what i think it would be like to have a third sex.

thru meiosis, the cell division process that eggs and sperm go through, the chromosome number halves from 46 to 23. the process of contraception unites an egg and sperm together to form a fertilized egg with 46 chromosomes again.

to have a third gender/sex, there must be three types of germ cells (egg/sperm) of which any two can unite to form a fertilized egg. Reproduction for multicellular organisms have only been combinations of egg and sperm. And since there have not been a third type of germ cell, there will not be a third sex.

If however, by some freak mutation, we have three types of germ cells then we would have a third sex/gender.

This third sex would have equal status among male/females. Lets call it a non-male as an example. Since any two of throse three genders are capable of reproduction, we would have males being attracted to non-males and females, non-males being attracted to both male and female, females being attracted to both non-male and male.

Society would be pretty much the same, except we would have three bathrooms.

Bacteria on the other hand, are not only capable of self replicating, but also have the ability to pair up with each other to swap chromosomes. By this mechanism, bacteria are hermaphrodites.

Aren't we evolving in the other direction toward one sex?

Anyway I think not much would change except that there was another sex.
