Not another one of these grabass threads.

Just read that a ship in route to the Arctic to study "global warming" was stuck in ice. LMAO!

I don't understand the sea level rising shit. Put some ice in a glass. See the water rise? Now it melts. See the water stay the same height?

How long have we had sats to study climate? Al Gore ran away with a theory that his professor retracted and made money. There's big money in propaganda and books in this day in age with all the sheeple. Just always remember a good actor can inspire us to trust.

Here's a fun experiment you can do at home.

Fill a glass with water to the very top.
In your left hand have a big ice cube - we'll call this hand Greenland
In your right hand have another big ice cube - we'll call this hand Antartica
Carefully put the ice cubes in the water.
Note whether the water overflows or not.

Before doing this consider putting the glass somewhere where spilled water won't matter, like the keyboard of your laptop  :D
(ps don't do this ;) )

So we should worry if two giant ice cubes that are not on Earth now are dropped in the ocean?

The change will be so gradual that humans will adapt to it. It's not like the Earth's temperature is going to pop up 10 degrees average overnight.

Yesterday I heard on PBS's Nova, underwritten by David H Koch, that the oceans will boil away in 10,000 years.

Wow I know you "skeptics" like to deny things but a whole continent?! :O
http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/wherewater.html

"The ocean holds 97 percent of the Earth's water; the remaining three percent is freshwater found in glaciers and ice, below the ground, or in rivers and lakes."

The average depth of the ocean is 3700m. If 1/10 of that 3% ends up as melt water in the ocean that will raise the sea level by 10m. That ignores the effect of thermal expansion on the water.

650,000,000 people live within a 10m elevation of the ocean. Plus every port in the world.....

In about 600 million years, the level of CO

2
will fall below the level needed to sustain C3 carbon fixation photosynthesis used by trees. Some plants use the C4 carbon fixation method, allowing them to persist at CO

2
concentrations as low as 10 parts per million. However, the long-term trend is for plant life to die off altogether. The extinction of plants will be the demise of almost all animal life, since plants are the base of the food chain on Earth.[11]

We're just trying to extend the time that earth can sustain life. You people don't hate life do you?

You know a lot of the ice on the poles is not floating on the water, it's resting on land masses. That introduces new water to the oceans.

Live stock has died due to extreme heat. Crops have been wiped out. The poles have melted. Sea levels have risen. Cities are submerged in water or are in ruin due to the extreme heat. In certain parts of the world people literally melt.

Roland Emmerich will be worshiped as a prophet.

the poles have melted? North pole yes. South pole no, it is increasing.

Suck to be polar bear and penguin, one need more ice, one need less ice.

Lets switch the name from global warming to climate change, people should be more willing to accept.

Even if global warming or climate change is a scam, you can see and smelt the effect of emission, smog and pollutions. What's wrong with being more resourceful? If each person in the world produce 1 less lb of waste every week, how much emission we cut? how much gas we save? how many animal we save? How many plastic bag we cut?

Take a sec and think about it, 1 lb of waste per week is like a couple fast food meal packaging, a couple apples you throw away.

Most of the glaciers sit on land. Put some ice in a funnel right above the glass. Wait a few hrs, see the ice melt into the glass. What happens to the water level?

Yeah, so that's new ice, forming from new water, from the frozen continent that has been falling into the sea and melting. So, the reality is that the continent is shrinking, sea level increasing and rising...therefore more sea ice when measured at certain times of the year.

I guess your perspective is one way to look at what is happening. It's the wrong way, but it is a way. Certainly plays well in the more ignorant spheres of politics and AM radio, that's for sure.

He was also referencing "Sea Ice Extent" which is area. Unless you know the thickness too you can't definitively says its increasing or decreasing.

Riiiiiiight.

Some branches of science make accurate predictions, like finding the Higgs Boson some 50 years after the Standard model.

Climate science not so much.

What do you think the surviving (but possibly soon to be dead) people will do?

The heart of your question has nothing to do with global warming. All you are asking is what do you think people would do if they were slowly dying because the world is coming to an end.

Now, see how easy that was without adding the BS of global warming which adds nothing to the discussion.

A "steamer" indeed.

This is brilliant.

Please, tell us more.

Or, well, let's just close the books and go home, folks. I think Overvolt has settled this debate with such a clear and brilliant remark.

Wait--he might redact the entire post. Let's hold off for now.

Not another one of your completely nonsensical posts where you prove just how little you know and somehow still think your opinion somehow in any way matches reality.

I don't even...do you for some reason think all polar ice is melted?

Oh, well I guess I should've finished reading as you just literally said you don't even know what the fuck you're talking about. And once again basic knowledge and logic alone is enough to explain what you can't grasp.

What theory was that?

Yes there are, and I'm guessing you've bought a shit ton of them from people like Glenn Beck and others that you seem to be getting your information and "knowledge" from, who are far and away doing that more than anyone you think you're talking about.

And if there's anyone here that's a "sheeple" it'd be you as I'm guessing there's probably been quite a bit of attempted crossbreeding in your family history.
