What if Gavin Newsom took on Trump 2020?

He managed San Francisco well, and he has progressive, empathetic policies. Many on the right will point to San Francisco's (such an incredible area) 'sanctuary' status and jump all over that murder of a woman by an undocumented (illegal to them) immigrant like a tribe/gang would if another gang kills someone in that gang. De-evolution.

Who else would like to see the opposite of Trump in the highest seat?

And he had that affair with a staffer's wife. Damn.

I think he had a thing for me, but I hate the limelight.

Hahahahahaha!

Let me repeat...

Hahahahahaha!

You guys need to lay off the far left. This country is not far left. Far left is going to lose. Find more moderate candidates. Progressives are typically far left of center. But, for shits and giggles, bring it. It will guarantee Trump a second term. :D

And jump all over the murder of "a woman". Her name is Kate Steinle, an American citizen. That POS that killed her needs to rot in hell, but your ilk doesn't seem to care about her, much less remember her name.

Yes I don't care about murder, and one high-profile murder doesn't paint a whole race.

I was saying, all through the 2016 election process, that there was a quiet, but angry electorate, that was going to step up and defeat Hillary Clinton. That came to pass.
I'm also predicting that there is a quiet, but angry voting block that is going to defeat some people in California in the November 2018 elections. The biggest one will be getting a Republican governor. You can thank Jerry "moonbeam" Brown for that one, folks.
Huge taxes
High homelessness
Stance on illegals
Sanctuary cities
Irresponsible spending (the over budget, high speed train project)

The angry will step up and it should be a blow out. People don't want San FranFeces or any other shit cities with crap, garbage and drug needles everywhere.

Good looking guy.

But, far left. That's the issue. Dems need to go center. Bring back the Bill Clinton years!

The far left have no moral boundaries, but call the ones who are centered, or right leaning, evil. See, to them, wrong is right and right is just evil. What a mixed up world we live in. That said, both extremes, right and left, need to move back to some semblance of sanity, or else our country is going to implode.

It would help if you guys took your own advice...stop running Nazis in national elections. You think this country likes the far right any better?

I also think it's hilarious how much outrage you show over Kate Steinle, when the 2A crowd gives zero fucks for 1000s killed every year due to accidental gun discharges. But I know, illegals don't have human rights in your eyes, so lock em up and fry em!

Nope... I don't know this guy from SF or his chances against a stump much less Trump... this post however...

Um... sorry mate. Your feelz are a bit off. This country has shifted to the center. There is no far left in the Democrat party, at least not one that ANYONE entertains or listens to. We point at them and laugh, just like the right does... As stated my times, we wish they would either STFU, go away, or both. They don't get to talk at the table when the adults are seated... I actively work against candidates who are seen as "far left" and try and prop up more centrists...

On the OTHER hand, the far right IS an actual thing and HAS taken firm control over the GOP. So much so that even Reagan Republicans are called RINOs and even worse.

No mate, you are very confused. Most of America including most liberals have shifted to the center. You know, that area that the right shits on all the time with their words and their policies. Nope, we'll hang out here while the far right shitheads far all the flat earth they fear...

I agree. If we want examples of good morals the GOP is where it's at.

Perhaps, but given the energy on left between women and minorites, I wouldn't first look at (far left) white guys as capturing that spirit. Eg. Alexandria O-C.

OTOH, I wonder if there will be some nervousness of "backlash" running another woman or minority given the climate and the will of the D strategists to play for the white, older Midwesterners that are seen as key to the rust belt. Eg. Biden.

2020 race will kickoff right after the midterms, and I still don't have any clue where it's going for the Ds.

On the one hand, post-Trump, there really is no ground to challenge the credentials of any candidate running for President.

On the other hand, Presidential candidate Newsom is a great way to assure a second Trump term, assuming of course he’s not impeached by then.

Sane people don't want that but this thread is proof that there are people that do.
The free market has assigned the highest monetary value to living in San Francisco, even with the taxes, feces, and needles. And not by a little, something like 5x of your average city. If you believe in free markets, you may want to ask why.

Bill Clinton should be the image of the new right wing. Willing to compromise and halt progress in the name of corporations and Republican interests. A trickle towards a better future. In contrast to those like Sanders and other progressives who support a bolder agenda that doesn't cave to special interests or the wealth of Wall Street in making their decisions. The "left" who value people over money and will stop at nothing to help them.

A big Republican selling point is that Democrats take from people and never give back. That they control and attack you. That concept crumbles the moment you stake out a bold agenda and do not aim for mediocrity. When a Democrat does not compromise they are the only chance the working class has of surviving the modern economy. An agenda that speaks to helping people will not be ignored.

There are many high cost, high tax cities in the world that are economically vibrant and desireable places to live. Needles and poop in the street is unique to San Francisco and a lesser extent Portland. Says something about the respect people have for the place where they live.

I was saying, all through the 2016 election process, that there was a quiet, but angry electorate, that was going to step up and defeat Hillary Clinton. That came to pass.

Yes, and small. Had the pre-election polls not been so favorable to Hillary, there would have been a lot more Dems/Leftys voting. Easier voting (by mail/internet - already available in some places/elections/age groups/disabled, or making voting compulsory like taxes and Australia), would also help the aging haters (who watch FoxNews all day and have plenty of time to vote) not be such a big voting block (like my aunt in the Bible Belt, "The war on Christmas! The war on Christmas!")

And those taxes helped hugely with a lot of stuff. "Give me better roads, but I aint f-ing paying for them!"

Much of what California is cursed with is because of what she's graced with; amazing weather, no snow unless you want it, no hurricanes, but much more occasional earthquakes, and very localized flooding/fires. Building among tinder and keeping the power on in high winds are killers.

It's much easier to be homeless in California, not just because of the weather or just because she's such a large state, but also because gentrification is making it unaffordable for so many.

Sanctuaries come from empathy and compassion. With all the jobs we happily want a perceived sub-class to do, there are two signs at the border; "Help Wanted" and "Get Out!"

Yeah, the high speed train. It will cut almost no time from the trip to SF from LA counting getting to the station, parking...and the slowness of that rail through metropolitan areas. It will pollute less if people use it, so that makes it worth it IMO.

The angry will step up and it should be a blow out. People don't want San FranFeces or any other shit cities with crap, garbage and drug needles everywhere.

So you've been there.

Yes, and progressive values have been tried, and I believe most have succeeded. Sure, a well off person may have to think twice about spending $100,000 on a watch, but that's a small price to pay IMO. There is a greater good being drowned out by individualism, perceived freedom to harm, greed, tribe, and all those awful distinctions/comparisons/fear (race, religion...).

Carter was progressive, and in some ways so was Obama, but way back, Eugene McCarthy was being campaigned for door to door by my mom, dad, brother, and me. The sign is still in the family. Boy, did we get some doors slammed on us.

Later it was McGovern. I wonder how things might be if Nixon/Agnew lost.

So to be clear you’re predicting that the guy down about 20 points to Newsom is not only going to win but it’s going to be a blowout?
