What if every Jew in Israel emigrated to the US?

I mentioned this in another thread (on why the US provides aid to Israel) but I think I want to explore the idea a bit further. Basically I said:

<<
I always thought it was because we were very sympathtic with what happened to the Jews during WWII (heck, throughout history it seems that everyone has hated the Jews) and when they established Israel we thought it was the right thing to do to help them. Their form of government and basic values are very similar to ours. I can't imagine not ever supporting them. They were surrounded by enemies who wanted to wipe them out. They're our friends so we help them -- that's what friends do.

Sometimes I wonder if it would have been better if all the Jews in Israel would have emigrated to the US though. They're a great people and I certainly would have welcomed them with open arms.
>>

From what I understand of the Jewish religion -- there has always been the promise that the Jews will be delivered to a "promise land" of some sort where they can live freely and without fear. It doesn't make sense for this land to be Israel because that's where they originally came from. Maybe this promise land is really the US!

If all the Jews from Israel emigrated to the US, we will receive the following benefits:

1) We don't have to worry about the Arabs nations slaughtering them anymore. Our friends would be safe here.
2) We don't have to spend a lot of money to defend Israel anymore. We can use this money to help our own poor.
3) The Israelis would not be a drain to our country -- most are well educated and can make major contributions to our society.
4) Our Air Force will get a bunch of top-notch fighter pilots -- so our national defense will be strengthened.
5) Hopefully, the Arab and Muslim world won't hate us as much anymore.

Is my idea too wacky?

Yes. An entire race just picking up and leaving is not feasible.

well thats what they did when the re-occupied isreal.

BUT

the point is that they want the land because they view it as their promised land from God. living in peace is not the issue, they don't just like the climate there. it's their holy land.

for that matter, why not evict all the palestinians to neighboring arab countries? they're nearby, they would be accepted, israel would be happy...

Yes, I've seen lots of hot looking Israeli women... that's another benefit of this idea to the US that I didn't list. ;)

The "promised land" does refer to Israel. It's most often used when saying the Jews returned to the promised land after 40 years in the desert. (dessert? I can never remember.)

Um... there are more many many more Jews in the USA than in Israel. The entire race certainly didn't pack up and leave.

I wasn't born in a religious environment so I'm not that familiar with the story of the promised land. Is Israel, for sure, the promised land?

I thought I remember seeing movies showing Moses promising to deliver the Jews to their promised land. But it didn't make sense to me. If Israel was in fact the promised land, why leave the promised land, and then yearn to be able to go to the promised land? That's why I thought maybe the US is really the promised land. They'll have peace and prosperity here.

a few things,
first of all stormrider, I always thought it was because we were very sympathtic with what happened to the Jews during WWII that is completely untrue. the us was not very sympathetic to the jews plight in wwii, at the very least, we turned away multiple boatloads of refugee jews throughout the war, and there is quite good evidence that the us and roosevelt knew exactly what was happening to the jews and chose to do nothing about it.

second of all, the promised land has always been specified as israel, a land of milk and honey and it was promised to the jews upon their return from slavery in egypt. visit israel once and you will understand why no israeli would ever want to leave there and why quite a few people dream of moving there, rather than moving here.

third, the israelis would rather fight for their own land and make their own destiny than to give up and move under another rule. there is not an instance in history where the jewish people ever gave up a fight until the very end, and even then, they usually found a way to spoil the victory for the conquerers - i.e. masada and other instances.

and yes, xyyz - there are way too many hot women and the accent does do it for me. when i was there, one of our tourguides/guncarriers was one of the hottest women i've ever seen. yummy!

They would never want to come here (most of them anyway), Israel is their home and I'm sure they would rather die defending it than leave it (just as many would for the USA).

I read once that after Israel was created.....many American Jews left the US moved there....

but that's a good idea StormRider.....but I don't think it'll ever happen.

Even if all Israelis decided to move to the US it would be a logistical nightmare, the population of Israel is around 6 million and unless the they moved gradually over a number of years it would be virtually impossible to accommodate them.

I don't understand this comment? Why would we turn socialist?

Because almost all Jews in the US are Socialists, as per their voting patterns.

If the United States (or any country for that matter) had allowed the boat loads of Jewish refugees to enter the country following the end of World War II, there would have been no need to create the state of Israel.
