But I dont think M$ wont like it if apple becomes a competor due to AMD's product. Since we need M$ to make an OS that can support that x86-64 stuff its not exactly a win win situation.

IF you think that OS X is a superior OS why don't you just go ahead and pay more for their hardware? Apple won't port their OS because apple is a hardware company.

Ms does make 64 bit OS, WinXP Pro came out that works on IA64 and .NET Server has a 64 bit edition.

What are they going to do, recall all the copies they already shipped for the G3 and G4, design a new AMD based machine, and then rerelease OSX so that it only runs on this brand new machine? Oh, and then all the software released for OSX would have to be recompiled and rereleased for the new cpu.

If I could run OSX on superior hardware (read AMD, GF4, DDR, etc) I'd go for it. Most of the games I play use id's engines which are well known for their mac and linux support. And for anything else, I'd just do a dual boot. OSX and Win2k. The best of both worlds.
