What I went through to play HL2: Episode 1

hold up... a little story is on the way 🙂



little story: I was able to get a copy on my way to work this morning, thinking "nice, i can now go strait home after work and veg out to this game"

well the internet at my dorm sucks balls, and doesn't allow me to connect to steam, so I pack up my comp and take it to a friends house with decent internet. (had to run BACK home to get a monitor because my comp doesn't have the old VGA inputs)

then my comp is randomly freezing like a banchee! I cannot figure it out, it wouldn't start up past the windows xp splash screen. It had been working beautifully just minutes prior in my own room. So I pack it up and hook it up in the next room over, and magically it worked 😕

I load HL2 ep 1, and get the update and crap from steam (through much trial and tribulation with my friends internet for some reason) and load it up and it works. So i pack up and head home, and now steam won't let me 'start in offline mode'. It's just stuck on the "updating steam" box!@!

I want to play episode 1 🙁

Cliffs: I hate my internet/steam

I kinda think steam is a pretty good concept... it just bothers me that they use some ports that are blocked on my internet, so I have to go through a big hassle to make it work.

Why can't it use the same ports as say Internet Explorer? 😕

WoW works fine on my comp... I don't understand why all online games won't use a common port.

Ouch, that really sucks, how far is your friend's place? You might have gone through a decent amount of gas right there 😛
