What I think is going to happen to BF2 stats..

They are going to remove stats altogether and unlock all the weapons for everyone.

That sucks. Wouldn't surprise me if they did though. I don't have a very high rank, thus don't have that many weapons unlocked, but I have the few that I really want. So all weapons unlocked does not help me. Most importantly, I liked the stats as they are extremely thorough and interesting to monitor your progress, compare with friends, etc.

Battlefield 2 pwns. What pisses me off is that these games are starting to have ingame advertising--complete bull sh!t. I want to shoot the son of a b!tch who came up with the idea.

Battlefield 2 is one of the best online shooters I've ever played..although somethings can be improved

-take away air superiority. Its dumb how air owns everything and its too hard to kill.
-give us a reason to play assault class again
-ban all spawn campers

Stats are gay and so are unlocks. They mean nothing and all they create are whiny players playing for ranks and not fun.

If they take stats away the game dies. Most clans have left BF2 for other games because they unlock all the weapons and get bored.

i completely agree. the air superiority in that game is absolute bullshit... makes me hate playing on maps where air dominates.

that's why i like mashtuur so much. no attack choppers (with aimbotting gunners...) and no planes (with no-clipping hackers...)

the map they just released beta of isnt too bad. but then again, all i do in it is suicide runs with C4.

Completely agree. What ever happened to playing a game to have fun? Ranks are just stupid numbers so that the "hardcore" players can feel like they accomplished something after playing BF2 for 5 hours straight.

Whenever I run into someone at school/online who plays BF2, the first thing that inevitably comes up is "So whats your rank?".

Thats when the conversation ends.

if you play without cheating or stat padding, ranks can be a nice way to know how much you've played, or how skilled you are.

kill/death ratio is also nice, but is rather unfair to low kill ability classes like medics and engineers.

I really don't care about the stats although I would have liked to be a Colonel or a 4-star General (1st LT here )
BF42 was still fun without having stats, stats make the game too competitive and invites carrier raping, etc.

BF2 stats will eventually come back. Why? BF2142 hasn't become as popular as they'd like, though BF2 is two years old, it still has twice the number of players and ranked servers. Without stats, there is no reason for ranked servers and EA isn't going to let that cash cow disappear.

Personally, I don't think there are technical reasons for the stat servers for not working. Any real IT folks would have discovered the issue and resolved it in days not weeks. I believe the contract that Gamespy has with EA to run the stat servers ended and that they're negotiating a new contract. JMHO.

Unlocks I don't really care about since I have the ones I want, or could get the ones I don't if I really tried. Removing stats would be lame though. I just like to see personally how I play and historical trends and all that stuff. I couldn't care less what rank I am.

I'm really not sure why 2142 never took off. The titan mode is a waste of time, but the classic conquest mode is still as fun as ever. It did have a lot of bad publicity at the start though. But I find it to be a much more fun game than BF2 ever was. The weapons are much more balanced, the classes more useful, and a good portion of the maps are finely crafted...64 player gibraltar is insane.

It's not because of stats. BF2142 looks more like a mod, than a new game. BF2 had only been out a year when BF2142 came out. The last BF2 expansion pack had only been out a few months when BF2142 came out. BF2 wasn't played out yet, and it was too soon to release a new game. Lots of people where still waiting for them to get BF2 fixed right. Why get a new series when there's still things that need to be fixed with the current one. Then there's also the in game adds, that earned them a lot of negative publicity.

I hate unlocks, and couldn't care less about stats. If they want to sell me a new series, put cooperative play back in. Battlefield 1942 had it, and I'm not buying any future Battlefield series until they put it back in. They also need to put widescreen support in. It may have been ok not to have it when BF1942 came out, but they need to get with the times.

I have no hope for the series. Since it is owned by EA expect each succeeding BF game in the series to get worse with less innovation.

i know what you mean. however, i do like real ads in games as long as they are built-in. it adds realism and it offsets production costs a bit. my problem is these games have entire engines running in the background to download and display different ads at different times. FPS killer!

i know what you mean. however, i do like real ads in games as long as they are built-in. it adds realism and it offsets production costs a bit. my problem is these games have entire engines running in the background to download and display different ads at different times. FPS killer!

And I was bitching with everyone else about the ads though...the ironic thing is that I've NEVER actually seen an ingame ad in 2142.
