I have had my 5970 for 2yrs and 4 months now. This is a year longer than any other gpu upgrade.

A little background! For 2 years I have doing eyefinity at 5040x1050 with 3x dell p2210's.
This setup has been very good to me but 2 months ago I had a offer to buy a dell u2711 for $575 brand new in box from a guy getting a divorce. (Caught her cheating so very sudden separation) Had 6 of the p2210's as I was getting ready for 5x1 portrait with the 6990 or 7990. Sold 4 of the p2210's and kept 2 for eyefinity with the u2711.

The games that are tough in eyefinity like bf3 (vram), metro 2033 (fps and vram) I play on the u2711 and flight sims and some other games I play on eyefinity.

On to the point of this now! When sitting up my eyefinity the u2711 automatically goes to 1680x1050 and I get my 5040x1050. Then I can still do bezel comp even with the mismatch screens. Works perfectly. The u2711 has a great scalier and eyefinity looks very good like this. Also when playing games you don't even notice the different size screens! (at least I don't!)

I do not use the ati profiles I just use windows key + p and I can go back and forth between eyefinity and extended monitor. Neat thing is the u2711 automatically switches back and forth between 1680x1050 to match my p2210's on the outside and back to 2560x1440 when I go back to extended. Also keeps my bezel comp perfectly.

Finally the question is this! Does nvidia do this as I am thinking heavily of the 680 since one card can do surround now.

3.5 yr member here but only my 3rd post. LOL

but anyways they do have bezel correction but iirc only 2 screens can be driven per card (use to be like that anyways). As for the different resolutions idk.

I know the 680 will do surround with one card now but will it do it with mismatch size monitors like amd does? Guess we will have to see!

Would only having 2gb of ram instead of the 3gb that the 7970 have an real effect on performance? Especially with resolutions greater than 1920 with AA?

Depends on the game. My modded skyrim can easily use 2.5 GB of video ram, while games like bf3 use only 1.2 GB.
