its that you have to have an internet connection and validate the game and your account everytime you want to play... i tried showing the game to some peeps for christmas, one of which was interested in buying the game, but i couldnt log into to steam, even though I had an active and working dsl connection... anyways, my uncle, who was really interested, said he would opt for quake4 instead.... basically because i couldnt show him HL2 and he wanted to get a game to play when he recoups from an upcoming surgery...

I was going to buy the game for my buddy who just got a new system, but he doesnt and wont be getting internet access anytime soon..

2 game sales lost...

Once the game has been validated the first time, you can play in offline mode if no connection is available. If you unplug or disable the connection, then it would have prompted you to play in offline mode.

well....what's that saying ? "The last one gets bitten by the dogs"....or....
"The one who's always late will be punished by life".

If he doesnt want Inet it's his choice/problem.

It's actually ALSO Valve's problem..lol....since they will be quite aware of the fact that people without Inet (usually) cant play this game.

There ARE other games around, yes.

The point is Vavle wont care whether the occasional "friend" has no internet and therefore wont buy the game....a few people less who dont buy the game....well doesnt make them poor, for sure.

Question should rather be whether your friend (or people in general) would see HL2 (and HL2:DM) THAT good a game that they think it would be WORTH getting a decent internet.

As for my opinion: YES, YES, YES...and not only for HL2..in general. I cant even IMAGINE my life without my cable internet...and playing HL2/HL2:DM is only a tiny fraction of what i/we (incl. wife on her tebook ;) ) gain from having the broadband.

AGAIN...HIS choice. Nothing is free. Valve chose this...and now its on your friend to chose what HE wants ;)

Surely he would be able to check out HL2 soon if he has an upcoming surgery yet. I'd never choose Q4 over HL2. That'd be like choosing a Ford Taurus over a Infiniti G35. :)

As far as no internet connection, yeah that sucks but he can buy the game, installl, bring over to your house to validate, then enable offline mode and he's set. But for not internet I would choose something like Civ4 over HL2.
