China's still in the dark ages for gay rights so no surprise there.
Which is irrelevant to the idea to the question of whether defining marriage as between a man and a woman is a radical bible thumping Christian idea.

I provided examples of 2 large countries that are not Christian and hold the same view.

Opposing redefining marriage into being nothing more that a narcissistic circle jerk is not a radical right wing idea.

LOL. America doesn't have a viable left wing party. The Democrats are centrists and the republicans are extreme right.

If the Democrats were left wing then where are the bills suggesting the dissolution of private property? Where are the demands for a 100% tax on all profits above a specific amount? Where is the motion to make atheism the official state stance on religion? WHERE IS A BILL MANDATING A SINGLE PAYER HEALTHCARE SYSTEM or the nationalization of all insurance?

As to the OP. If the Republicans didn't pander to the religious on social policy then the religious might take a moment to think and realize that the Democrats more closely resemble what Jesus would want in economic policy (Since there's no viable American communist party; which would most closely mimic the financial policies promoted by Jesus and the first disciples/early church)
I think you're giving them way too much credit. :D

Fair enough. I will say in America, however , many times it does boil down to religious views.

Probably in the same place as the bills calling for an end to no-fault divorce.

I generally agree with you esp the McCain part. No way in hell I was going to vote for her to be one step away from the presidency. It seems like more and more Republicans are going full retard. Even worse I suspect this will be used to discredit some of the remaining valid ideas from the republican party

On a related note, can I be a democrat and a capitalist pig at the same time?
Yep! At least thats what I got from P&N where I have been called a left wing idiot in one thread only to be called a repuglican in a different thread about 5 minutes later

what do you mean redefining marriage? The federal government, nor the constitution claims a definition of marriage. And only the government has any power over marriage (Is not, nor never was an institution controlled by any religion in this country).

How can you redefine something that has no definition?

Oh, so challenging your taught, limited assumptions about something is an enforced redefinition? Holy shit, how terrifying that must be for you! D:

If there were a definition, then all the homophobes of the country wouldn't be out in arms trying to put this bullshit on every constitution in every state.

seriously, show me a "definition of marriage" that holds any clout.

What I don't get is that in the end we are all the same. We are Americans trying to save the union in our own way. Roughly half the country is "conservative" while the other is "liberal". If we do not find a way to work together ... Lincoln's prophetic words might very well come true.

I think the federal government did define it. You just do not like the definition.

How can you redefine something that has no definition?
In order for marriage to exist you have to be able to define it.

This court case does a nice job.

The Court first dealt with the statutory interpretation. Based on the common usage of the term "marriage" and gender-specific references elsewhere in the same chapter, the Court held that the statutes prohibited marriage between persons of the same sex.[7]
This familiar restriction, the Court reasoned, did not offend the Due Process Clause because procreation and child rearing were central to the constitutional protection given to marriage.
And believing that marriage has a purpose beyond extorting benefits from the government and being a narcissistic circle-jerk does not make you a homophobe.

Seriously, McCain was the last straw--desptie his traditional conservative tendencies which I dislike, I always liked the man. I thought, at one time, he would make an excellent president--he was not a panderer, he had solid principles, and he fostered friendships throughout congress that made him one of the most successful, most trusted leaders in Government.

Then came Palin, then came the image that McCain tried to adopt of himself in those last months. It was disgusting, and shows you that the true center of this party has become the Rovian fundies. They are destroying that party, and I wonder what will be left when the real conservatives finally abandon the smoking husk of the GOP.

I wonder (fear?) what harm they might be able to do before that happens...

DOMA: fair enough, but you do know that DOMA no longer applies, right?
DA/DT is completely gone. You know that, right?

All I see from the righties these days is fear, fear fear. Fear of the gay, fear of the loss of whatever "moral fabric" never existed in their minds in the first place.

and what is it with you and constantly trampling on women's health and women's rights? Where, exactly, did the evil woman touch you? You've never answered me this question.

All I see from the repubs these days:
--Akin is not one of us, he does not speak for us! We love Women!
--Repub convention: Lets vote to hold up rep Akins most fundamental ideas! He is one of us! --Unanimous.

pathetic.

Wrong it did exist. And given that poverty for single mothers vs. married couples increases by a factor of 5...

By women's rights you mean abortion. Please grow a pair and be honest.

And not funding special health clinics for women is not "trampling" on women's health. Unless you do not think women are capable of taking care of themselves. You do think women are more than retarded children don't you?

I would love to see the rise of a multi party system. Of course Congress would have to risk giving up some of their power by letting different people play in their sandbox.

You'd think republicans would support funding abortions given how much they hate welfare. Paying for an abortion is alot cheaper than paying for 18 years of welfare :awe:

Nah, you'd think they would support birth control since that prevents abortions in the first place.

True dat

Fundie logic:

Democrat: "Hey. We know how much you hate welfare, so we found that we can fund abortions and prevent babies from being born into poor families in the first place!"

Republican: "Rah Rah killing babies rah ra"

Democrat: "Oh. Ok, well we have these pills now that will prevent contraception from ever happening in the first place"

Republican: "Rah rah funding birth control rah rah"

Democrat: "Well how about we just sow their vaginas shut and lock them in the kitchen"

Republican: "Now you're on to something! I'm glad we could come together and solve this like civilized people"

Funding birth control and/or abortions is a form of welfare.

Only a liberal could think that giving people government hand outs is a way to end welfare :D

That's basically the Democratic Party platform:

Women are retarded.
Blacks are retarded.
Mexicans are retarded.

So let's give them free shit since they aren't able to live independently.

The Democrats have perfected Double-think

If you do not think women are retarded you are engaging in a war on women :hmm:

I don't give a flying fuck if people want to abort their offspring. I don't believe tax revenue should be used to fund abortions.
