i don't get this.

people are bidding $23+ for a gmail invite. if you click on buy it now, you can get them for <$10. why bid?!

Maybe they're lazy and aren't scrolling down or reading the other auction entries. Or maybe the seller with the "buy it now" option has bad feedback.

Maybe they want to show off how much money they have and it'd give them an ego boost to beat another dumb bidder.

eBay-ers get caught up in the "gotta have it now" syndrome. That, and sometimes certain buyers are more trustworthy or have better payment options. For example, it doesn't matter how cheap something is, if you only take cash or BidPay I ain't buying your s%$#, got it?

yep, I'll usually pay a little more just to pay by paypal. if you only accept money orders or checks, sorry but no go. I want my item asap.

Oh we've been down that road so many times... :) I don't get it either. By now I'm sure all the good usernames are taken anyway, so even if I WANTED brandon@gmail.com I couldn't get it. If I wanted first.last at any free e-mail service I could get it.
