You need a masters to know the dewy decimal system? I honestly don't understand how librarians arn't classified as unskilled labor. I guess if you have a ledership role at a library, a BA makes sense, but for an MA to be needed?

OK, I seriously have never heard of this. Is this actually needed to be a librarian?

yup, you do... one of my groomsmen is one, and he makes mad bank $$$...

library science means you're a pro. at cataloguing and archiving and whatnot... and you know stuff like the dewey decimal system, microfilm, microfiche, etc. enough to teach it to others....

you betta recognize the realness of the librarian, fool!

The First Lady actually has a Masters in Library Science...

That is my graduate major (still 1 more year of undergrad left). Yes, it is *REQUIRED* to be a librarian. You can be an assistant without one, buit you won't get paid much (not that you will be making much more as a librarian).

Your skills depend on your emphasis as well. I will probabl be specializing in cataloguing theory.

*not checked for spelling.

There are a lot of CS fields of study that overlap. Libary science has to do with catagorie theory and database theory. It is no slouch degree. Math heavy.

Are you sure about that? It isn't a CS degree by any means. You can get away with almost no math.

My mom and my sister-in-law are both librarians. It is not a slouch degree by any stretch of the imagination.

Um, my mom has an MLS, and she worked hard for it! She's the head reference librarian at a local library.

i have more respect for someone with a MLS than with an MBA.

A Library Science degree is honorable; it's the pursuit of providing free knowledge to the masses. An MBA is the pursuit of cash.

Wait. Librarians don't get paid?
