Soon (right after taxes) I am going to finish the rig that I am building. I plan on getting a T-Bird 1GHz to run "as-is" at least for a while. I may or may not OC. Should I go with the AMD heatsink and fan supplied, or install a heat sink and fan that will do the job later on? What heat sink and fan does AMD ship with the 1GHz?

you should read some reviews around, but generally, i think stay away from teh orbs. i just ordered the FOP38 but it's noisy. in it's 'family' I think the FOP32-1 is supposed to be minimum. You know, AMD has a link and list of approved fans in their "Buyer's Guide" on their home page. i ordered mine from 2cooltek.com

if theres even a chance of you over-clocking in the future id get a capable HSF now. the reason is you dont want to be taking the HSF on and off of the T-Bird core as this greatly increases the chances of chipping/breaking the core. a Global-Win FOP32-1 would serve you well , it is the same heatsink as the FOP38 only with a much quieter 26cfm fan. i use one and love it. also it is AMD approved. try 2cooltek they have a good socket heatsink test article to help you decide also.
