What HPET Mode setting with a dual boot system?

I have a Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 motherboard that I'm setting up to dual boot with XP Pro 32bit and Vista Ultimate 64bit.

How should I configure the HPET mode?

On or Off?

32bit or 64bit mode?

I know that XP does not use HPET, so does it just ignore the setting?

Just like any other modern chipset feature, leave it enabled. An older OS that doesn't know how to use it will inherently leave it alone.

I ended up sorting this out by playing with the board over the weekend. Just as Peter said, XP ignores the HPET setting. I set it to 64 bit mode and it works fine with dual booting Vista 64 bit and XP 32 bit.
