Anything in particular that gives you hope that things will get better?

Alcohol and running help me...lol.
As funny as that may sound. Booze helps me forget my troubles, and running helps me relieve the stress that they bring. But not at the same time. That's a whole new world of trouble.

I think of the YAGT posters on ATOT. Makes me really feel a whole lot better.

Its really convienient because I can recall a half dozen or more threads at any given time. That will make me laugh.

knowing that this is only a temporary feeling and that it WILL go away.
I think of all the good things that have happened to me, i remember my favorite memories.
Finally, i make myself realize how lucky i am to have what i have, know who i know. I make myself count all that i am greatful for and know that my life could be one million times worse.

There are others who have a daily struggle yet have a positive outlook.

My wife and kids. I know it's man point deductions, but it's true. Actually happen to me yesterday evening, I was in a mood and the wife cheered me up.

Music, Working out w/ heavy weights or punching a heavybag. Calling up friends and just chatting seems to make things get better.

1) Working out. As you said, it helps take away stress, aggression, etc.
2) A nice dinner and a bottle (or two) of wine with a close friend
3) A bottle of wine, a book, and some classical music by myself
4) Driving around on a nice day with some good music

My biggest thing is anxiety. It gets to the point where I don't sleep for almost weeks at a time (like now). I know of no way to calm the anxiety other than simply waiting for the events that leave me anxious.

I think about Christmas. Why? Because I associate it with awesome memories, of things that I greatly enjoyed or that meant a lot to me.

I usually listen to some sad songs or watch sad movies, have a nice long cry, then i try to forget my troubles by keeping busy.

Listening to certain music, playing my guitar, going to the gym.

A good workout is a great way to cheer yourself up. The toughest part is just finding the motivation to do it but once you do, you'll feel much better. Alcohol is a depressant so that's probably the worst thing you can do when feeling down.

And for me, I'm not someone that wants to be cheered up by others. When I'm down in the dumps, I'm much better off if left alone to just work through it. I tend to get irritated if someone is forcing it on me instead of just letting me come around through my own means.

Ignoring your troubles doesn't make it go away. Alcohol is not the answer, trust me on that one. Sooner or later you'll have to deal with it.

I find that running or exercise helps relieve stress in a healthy way.

I also beat on my speed bag for half an hour or so. After that, I'm so beat I dont' really care.
