I'm planning on getting the microfly and an asus p5k-vm mobo. What would be the best heatsink that could fit?

It is possible to plop in a Thermalright Ultima-90? :)

I don't know what the microfly is (a case I assume), but the Scythe Mine Rev. B is pretty much the best heatsink for around 30$. The Ultima 90 would cost closer to twice that amount.

The microfly is actually a small form factor case. I'm searching for a heatsink that will fit it in well, aside from the stock cpu one.

I have the same motherboard but a different SFF case. Do you really have space for a heatsink that is 5.5 inches tall (Ultima90)???

My case can take a heatsink up to about 4.5" tall. I tried the BFT90 and it was just barely too tall. I'm mostly concerned with noise. You didnt say whether you're interested in low loise or high performance.

The Mini Ninja is also about 4.5" tall.

oops. I actually didn't know the dimensions of that heatsink.

I'm interested in low noise. I'm planning to use it on a Q6600.

Anything low-noise in a cramped case with that hot of a chip is going to run pretty hot. There's not a lot you can do about that. I've been considering this cheap zerotherm for my own system: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835887004

Whatever you try out, shoot me a PM and let me know how it worked. I'm looking for the same thing...

I asked about this a couple of months back.(looks like it's pass the purge date)

The microfly and most SFF cubes have a 3inch or 75mm vertical clearance opening for the MB tray. That usually limits you to the stock cooler or other down-blowing HS types(zalman or TT flower orbs) if you want to be able to slide the tray in and out with the HS in place. Or you can use a TR SI128 type and mount the fan after the tray is in.
-Zalman also makes the CNPS 8000 specifically for this application.
-TR makes the MST-9775LE for this as well
-hardware logic seems to think the Silverstone NT06 CPU will fit w/o the fan.(probably works better in the TT lanbox where the psu fan draws air up thru the HS.)

On the microfly the PSU isn't located over the cpu, so there is enough vertical clearance for tower types like the TR ultima90, but the structural rib on the cpu side of the case blocks it so you'll have to dremel it for a tower to fit. (Somebody did this with a microfly and an ultra120, I think. dont have the picture link anymore.)

I just saw some pictures of the Micro fly and noticed that the interior is absolutely identical to my Aerocool Aerocube. If you're willing to cut a little most non-tower (and some tower) heatsinks will fit. This is what I cut away to make a Thermalright XP 120 fit:

Also kind of depends on the MB. the distance from top of the board to the CPU socket is different with each board. If the socket is lower on the board, you might fit a ultima 90 in the "north south" orientation(90mm side facing the PSU) with no modding and no fan. If you cut the structural rib, you can get it in the "east west" (90mm side facing case exhaust fan) orientation and fit a 90mm fan.

i've had the mst9775 normal edition. it is not really that great a cooler, its only a little better than a retail one, though it is quieter. i would not bother if you already have a retail cooler. if you really want to go with a smaller form factor it might be wise to just buy a slower cpu now and wait for the penryn ones.
