What headsets do y'all use for voice in games?

I've noticed that on some people's computers, the sound in games like CS, TFC, sounds good for vocal communication. Any of you have recommendations on good headsets to use? If I already have a nice pair of headphones I use, can I just setup a mic and have it work, or will it suck?

Yup, all my friends and I use Plantronics headsets, and needless to say, there's no trouble interpreting each other's voices.

Plantronics makes GREAT headsets.

KIM that for positional audio cues, you need a stereo headset (duh!)

I use a Labtec Axis-002.

I also use an MS Gamevoice unit, and have a dedicated GV server running for my buddies to use while playing.

A desktop mic like that is not ideal, since you want the mic at a constant distance from your mouth...ideally close (but not TOO close). That why headsets are so much better suited for voice work.

A desktop mic (even with good noise cancelling), will be more likely to pick up ambient noise, rather than your voice.
Especially if you move your head AT ALL while you're gaming/fragging.

I'm off to Best Buy to pick up a new headset. Thanks for the recommendations - I'll probably go with the Labtec, unless I see something else at a reasonable price. I'm not shelling out $80 for a headset. :D

The one that comes with Xbox Live is the only one I ever use. I don't like the fact that the around your head thing is so big that you can't lean your head back but I just put mine over my head in a ackward possition so it servers its purpose. It falls off once in a while so it is not the best but it works and that is all I care about.

I found a pair of plantronics audio 60's, which work great. Thanks for the advice, guys. :D

Damn I think my Labtec Axis 502s are going bad; the phones still work but the audio is unbelievably poor (just started today). Maybe something went loose internally. There's a very slight buzz in the background that I don't remember hearing before.

Even originally, the audio was not very inspiring but I figured that's the tradeoff with a headset. I'll probably pick up the Axis 002 as a replacement unless I find a good deal on the Plantronics Audio 60.

I got the Plantronics LS1's (or maybe HS1's. Something. Can't remember. Just remember that it was one of the better sets they make.) for like $35 or so a while back when I played Counter-Strike competitively. Several people in the clan had the same headset: worked wonderfully. Highly recommended.

I have this little dell mic I got like 4 years ago when we bought our dell. I hang it from my headphones. Its this little white thing that has a sensor, and I can fit it to the side of my monitor (not like its that sensitive anyways). I am willing to bet it costs less then $3 at any store. And it probally cost Dell less then $.50 to make. It is a POS.

EDIT: It probally makes me sound like im a 13 year old boy who is waiting for his second testicle to descend, but hey, People understand me. And it works AND it was cheep. Well free for that matter.

You do know that you can substitute a cell phone headset/earplug for the Live headset, right?

You may have to trim it a bit, since the receptacle is recessed on the comm module a bit.
But it should work great.

Jabra makes some pretty cool in-ear earplugs.

BTW: How cool would it be to have a Bluetooth headset option for Live?
BTW2: I hope they add that in Xbox 2.
