Hi, i own the astro a50 gen 1 for a long time and i dont know if you think is time to upgrade?? so i was thinking about Razer ManO'War Wireless 7.1 vs Steelseries ARCTIS 7. Or any recommendations for a wireless headset??
Thank you.

I liked my longtime budget headset Plantronics GameCom 1, like $40 on ebay. Then I used the Seenheiser 363D which cost quite a bit more, and was fine - nothing amazing, not bad. Now I use highend audio headphones, corded, no mic.

I'm not a fan of wireless headphones and headsets. I'd look into a high quality pair of headphones and a modmic or something. Unless you absolutely need the positional audio. I just feel the sound quality suffers with most gaming headsets.

I've been using a Tiamat 7.1 headset for almost four years now and they have been outstanding for immersion. I wouldn't have thought 7.1 was possible with headphones, but if you play first person or action games, I would highly recommend these. Positional audio isn't necessary, but it adds a level of immersion that you just can't get with traditional speakers or stereo headphones.

+1 for the SteelSeries Arctis 7. I really like my set. The wireless range is exceptional. Audio quality is very good. If you game with friends on voice comms it has a dial where you can lower volume of game / increase volume of chat very easily to find the perfect balance. Build quality is nice. I really like them.

My prior two headsets were wired and I'd never go back. It's nice to have freedom of movement and not have cords dangling down my body and in way of keyboard, etc.

I firmly believe the best option is an external DAC and real headphones. There is too much garbage that sells just because it's labeled as a "gaming headset" and it's so difficult to sift through and find the real gems. But things like Philips SHP9500, M40x or Senn 558 are known quantities and you know they aren't garbage with a fancy logo and bright colors.

I use SHP 9500 with a v-moda boom pro mic that plugs into the 3.5mm port on the headphones. An external DAC is like ~$70ish. I use the SMSL SD793-II, but there are tons of different options. Expensive side, but you can replace each component as you see fit, and there's no guesswork.

I actually have some Razer Kraken pros, and they are great for the price that I paid. No complaints.

BUT.... If you want a GOOD set, and can spend some money on them, go for a Sennheiser headset.

Just remember that given a brand, such as Sennheiser, there are good and bad models. I generally prefer the 500 series for Sennheiser myself. The 600+ are overkill and the sub 500 are pretty bad (though some might disagree).

If it ain't broken and suits your needs why change it?

If you actually want to upgrade, then ditch the gaming moniker and go for hifi headset and seperate mic.
