Is that 1080p? I really want to be able to do either the blue ray or hddvd whoever wins the war.

Thanks.

You really can't get too caught up in the specifications game. Any high quality HDTV should look great with HD DVD or Blueray, whether they are 1080i or 1080p.

1080p in and of itself means nothing when talking about what set has better picture quality than another. My next-door-neighbor has a 1080p BenQ 37" LCD, while I have a 37" Panasonic Plasma. My set looks dramatically better than his. Even his wife thinks so, much to his chagrin. So, 1080p is not the be all and end all. Use your eyes for comparison testing.

And on 1080p in general, a very good article was written over at Gamespot about why for many instances, 1080p just doesn't matter now. It's a compelling read.

Did you say you were making the screen? Where did you get the material? I know you can project right onto a wall, but my problem is that our wall is painted a beige color.

So I know you can buy them where is the best place to buy one and how do you hang em?

Thanks.

Got a lot of input on buying from Costco. It was mentioned they have the best return policy how does it differ from Circuit City and Best Buy?

Thanks.

I made mine out of Blackout Cloth. I'm actually in the process of making my border and masking system. The screen itself is make out of some 1x3s that I cut to the right size and then I stretched Blackout Cloth over it (sort of Artist's canvas style. Now I'm making a border and masking panels out of insulation with black fidelio velvet as the surface material.

Im with yoyo here. I wnt the projector route too. If your going to go DLP and your going to go DLP in a box at 56" and changing a biulb you may as well go all out and get a front projector. I didnt make my screen like yoyo did, even though I would of liked to, but you can pick up a 100" screen at tiger direct for under $100 and you can get a HD projector like the optoma H70 for $999. Then you can take the $900 you saved and buy a Xbox 360 and the HD Drive and a few games and HD movies ;)

I dont have a HD projector I went with a Optoma H31 at $599 and the 100" Screen from Tigerdirect my self. Its a SD and it sits on a coffee table at 12.4 inches away from the screen. Going hd you can sit as close as the projector if you want and not really notice any screen door effect. So as long as you have a open wall for 100" or bigger (I wouldnt go smaller then 92" if you could help it with a front PJ), a coffee table, and about 13-14' room may want to go all out and bring the home theater home. I went from a 65" HD to the 100" and I will never go back to a HD in a big ugly ass box again. The projector is smaller then a xbox and the screen rolls up so this like takes up no room in your living room and frees it up to do what ever else with it, and you can bag up the projector and put it in a closet. Just more food for thought then to have the DLP in a box taking up living room space or the entire coffee table forever without really putting it away anywhere ;)

Wow! Excellent guys! Really helps with making my decision! A lot of questions were answered in just these two threads and makes the hd projector seem much more doable!

Okay so now I have to ask, why the Blackout Cloth?

Why not do the Do-able board from Home Depot? Seems so simple, just have them trim it a little and hang.

Thanks.

Where did you see that price on the Optoma H70?

I guess I don't have a really good reason for the blackout cloth vs. any other of the recommended materials. I just picked one and went with it.

I'd take LCoS over DLP starting at about $3k, personally. In the sub $3k range, DLP is the best choice, however.

Once you go front projector and see first habd with your own eyes that the picture quality is as good or better then a DLP in a a box you wont ever look back again. I used to bash these things left and right, ask YoYo, and after my toshiba broke and was forced into one I had to change a bulb in I never been happier. Kids are happy, wife is happy, and Im super happy. Got 100 inces of pure bliss, got enough room for a 150" screen and can wait to get one :)

Well it looks like my dream is being smashed to pieces by my gf!! First she is all ticked because she wants to watch HDTV without having to be in a dark room and the projector cant be in the living room because she thinks its too ugly and a million other unrational reasons!! So it looks like I might have to go with a 56" DLP or the like. Man this sucks, I just know Im not going to be that happy with 56". The whole point of this thing was to bring the movies home and the 100" really felt like that when I demoed one at best buy.

God I hate GFS!!! But cant live without em either!
