Obama seems to be doing a great job of pissing off both sides in the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Israelis don't like him because he doesn't treat them with the absolute deference they apparently expect; and the Palestinians don't like him because even though he doesn't support Israel as unconditionally as his predecessor, he hasn't done as much for them as they expected.

The Middle East is an impossible place in the best of times, but I think Obama's treatment of the region thus far has been pretty mediocre at best. IMO he is coming off as someone who's trying to stay neutral, and while that may be a fair approach to take in a conflict in which there is plenty of blame to go around, it's likely to just alienate both sides and not actually accomplish much of anything.

I really wish Obama would just have gone to Israel and said, 'The US respects a peoples right to self-determination, and we have learned the lessons of the past well. Therefore, on this day, we are announcing that we will take a deliberate hands off approach to the Israel/Palestinian conflict. No arms will be sold that have not contractually already been agreed to, and we will abstain from any UN vote regarding Israel or Palestine. Likewise we will not interfere in any Israeli/Palestinian conflicts. The future is yours...make the best of it. Secret Service, woo-ah, lets go.'

That would be so awesome...I'd give a couple $K to whatever Dem campaign fund for that to happen...

My opinion is that external pressure is not and will never be effective in this situation. The "peace process" has never been about lasting peace but minimizing casualties. That makes the attempt worthwhile and may be Obama goal. No one likes his approach, but it keeps one side from massively retaliating. Israel can't hate him too much since he has just now facilitated a reconciliation between them and Turkey.

Right, even though everybody knows the UN almost all the time is 100% bias against israel when it comes to voting.....nice try chucky.......

How about we do it this way -- the UN doesn`t vote on anything that concerns the Middle East.....all nations agree to ignore totally the Middle East unless there is a major act of God such as a massive earthquake or massive flooding etc...etc....then they only vote to help those who need help....

Apparently there are other people on this planet that think Obama is not only a dictator but also a some kind of magical being that can fix all of the worlds problems.

It's an unrealistic and stupid expectation.
