I take tools to work sometimes. I only take the ones that I stole from other contractors I worked for, so I'm really not giving anything up, I'm just acting as a facilitator helping the contractors to share.
Sometimes I'll even leave tools there if that contractor is particularly strapped.

In eight years: wear and tear on two adding machines, four computers, three scanners, and six printers; untold quantities of electricity and gas (heat), and some overtime. I work at home, and have to provide my own office, while they provide the consumables. However, I don't think of it as 'donating', it's simply a good barter to keep a good job and all the benefits of working where I want and when I want.
