LOL? Game cube had better graphics than the PS2?!!??!?! You must have never touched FFXII, the game leaves some current gen games to SHAME. Not to mention GT4, that thing destroyed any racing game on 360 at the time, and even still today, is the standard for driving simulation. I'll post some pics i took using the in-game camera.
P.s. I'm not talking about the cut scenes.
I'm trying to find a post of yours on this forum that isn't completely dense. You are so misinformed.
As amazing as FF12 looked, the PS2 had the least graphical capabilities of the 3 consoles of its generation. (Let's leave the Dreamcast out of this.) In raw power, the Gamecube had the highest shaded polygon performance of the 3 consoles. See Twilight Princess/Rogue Squadron/Starfox Adventures/Metroid Prime for the Gamecube. The Xbox had the most graphical effects at its disposal (lighting and shadows wise) at the time. The PS2 also came out almost 2 years before the other two so it's lesser graphical prowess is not surprising.
Lastly, how would Resident Evil 0/4 be remade on the Gamecube with better textures and more polygons than on the PS2 if the PS2 was more powerful than the Cube?
Anyway, the real argument is Wii vs PS2, which is a wash of a comparison. The Wii has roughly twice the processing power clock for clock, 3 times the RAM, and 100 mhz faster graphics chipset than the Gamecube. (Plus I'm sure all these architectures have lots of more optimizations so the whole story can't be told by numbers.) See Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, Twilight Princess, Conduit, etc.
The thing is, I think artistic styles were more inspired during the previous console generation. Take a look at Timesplitters or something, you can certainly see that the polygon count was less than say, Goldeneye that's coming out for the Wii. If you look very closely, you'll see that Goldeneye Wii is obviously pushing more numbers, the faces are modeled complete with noses and eyebrows, clearer textures, better lighting...but at the time TS 1/2/3 was more impressive.
If only they released an HD Wii already with an updated graphics chipset that can render at 720p and add 2x AA to everything, the visuals of the Wii wouldn't look as outdated as it does, but technically, yes the PS2 is less powerful than the Wii and even the Gamecube.
