what hardware is required to make a 'hackintosh'?

aka Brandon
I've found a page or 2 showing somebody making one, but I'm just looking for a broader picture of what hardware is compatible with OSX. There's some mac only music recording/mixing software I'd like to try out.

Though I would love the purchase a Mac to run it natively, a hackintosh would be much cheaper. If I may piggy back on the OP's question, I have a dual Pentium 3 1Ghz system, with 1GB of RAM, and a GF4 Ti4200, how well would this run OSX?

It's an older post, but covers the subject pretty well:

Illegal? As far as I know, kernel hacks are outsde the EULA.......No?
Hackintosh discussion is allowed here, as long as no one gives instructions on or assistance to acquiring illegal materials. As far as we're concerned unless otherwise proven, everyone here is an upstanding member who purchased their copy of OS X and are exercising their reverse engineering rights and desire to tweak.

The EULA is probably not enforceable in that respect, which is why they haven't tested it in court yet. Why someone would want to go to all the trouble to make one of these things is beyond me.
