A friend of mine needs a notebook for creating music, as well as something he can use on stage at shows. The only catch is it has to be a dell.
The programs he uses are editing programs (think cool edit or goldwave), sequencing and mixing (fruity loops or pro tools knockoffs), and light multitasking between the two. He doesn't need to use anything above cd quality sound since he's mostly sampling records. I downloaded and ran some of the programs to my desktop computer (athlon 64 2.0 ghz) and they seemed to not really use much resources or cpu power. But of course I'm here to get some more knowledgeable people's advice.
Are today's computers generally able to handle music creation with ease?
I don't know if the new multicore processors are much better for audio editing/sequencing, so should I just recommend a modest pentium M with 1GB ram? The only thing I'm thinking he should get that might cost more is a SB audigy notebook card or something. The inspiron 6000 seems like it has modest power at a decent price.
Any help is appreciated
