What happens when you pair up DDR2 533 with AM2?

I've been hearing AM2 supoprting 667 speeds but what about those who have 533 sticks? I know we won't know for sure until its released but anyone have any ideas on what might happen?

Dunno, from the looks of the OC threads, low latency does better than high bandwidth for X2 chips. DDR2 has a much higher default latency and may offer lower performance.

Latency on DDR2 sticks gets better with every revision, but its still a good deal slower than DDR1.

AMD wouldn't launch a new platform knowing that their chips would run slower on the new platform.

I think the main reason they are switching to DDR2 is because DDR is going to be phasing out..so they don't have much choice. DDR2 prices have already started dropping below the price of DDR. I picked up a gig of DDR2-533 for $68.

You dont think AMD hasn't thought about this...AMD wouldnt be so stupid...I'm sure these new CPU's will be optimized for the DDR2 latency

DDR2 also uses less power so the switch to DDR2 is imperative for AMD to remain competitive in the notebook sector as well. It will be interesting for sure to see performance comparisons between equally clocked M2 and 939 systems.
