What happens when you get a lot of frost in your fridge?

The door got left ajar on my dorm room fridge and was left like that for a whole day. I got pretty nice frost on the coil.

What happens if you don't defrost it and leave it like that?

The Ice gnomes come and take over your fridge. Expect to see a few pairs of underpants in there shortly.

seriously, you can defrost it but if you scrape it out make sure you are VERY careful. If you rupture the line you can let the freon (sp) out and that stuff is poisonous. You would have to evacuate the dorm.

That might be true if his 1.5 cubic foot fridge had a couple hundred pounds of real freon in it. But since freon hasn't been used in new appliances since oh about 1995 and the amount of freon that could be in it is less than the amount needed to get 1 person high off inhaling it directly, I don't think it is that much of a concern should he rupture a coolent channel.

Just uplug the fridge, put it someplace where it can defrost and the water has someplace to drain.

This fridge is kinda uniue.

It's got a defroster tray which catches all the defronst drippings.

I left it to defrost a few hours ago and I just dumped all the water that collected in the tray into a measuring cup. There was 1 1/2cups of water :Q

yeah because the ice builds up and soon takes over your freezer. I remember one time I wanted to eat something in my freezer but I couldn't get it out because part of it was cover in the ice. That was a sign for me to defrost it :)

it's not poisonous, but it can cause asphyxiation if you breathe it in.

No it's not, I've done what you're describing before. Deicing a fridge and punctured the damn thing in the middle of a coffee shop. I got a face full of coolant, and that was it, no evacuations and no one felt any ill effects from it.
