What happens when you don't remove a splinter?

I did some gardening and I got either a splinter or thorn stuck in my thumb.
I didn't take it out right away and it's pretty deep in there right now.
It'll be a b!tch to take it out now.

What happens if I never remove it?

if u dun take it out... won't ur body spit it out? like... the white blood cells attack it... then it'll harden up... and start to surface. almost like a pimple. or something.

really? all of mine just have skin grow over it and it becomes impossible to take out, unless i want to cut a hole in myself.

It'll turn into an infected, pussy, ugly mess. Slim chance that it'll just grow over, and eventually grow out.

At least, that's my experience.

btw, when i was little, i had a splinte in my finger (got it from gym class). my mom took me to the doctor to get it removed, so the doctor cut open my finger... was digging around... and found no splinter. that sucked.

Wow, you people are freaks! :Q :p

When I don't remove a splinter immediately, and it "settles" underneath the skin, I don't bother with it. After a few days, it'll start to resurface, only now with a hardened layer of skin around it. I guess the body recognizes the "foreign matter" and acts to contain it or something? Reminds me of what a vacuole does within a cell... anyhow, I then just either remove it, leaving a little depression where it used to be, or just wait 'til it falls off (like a scab).

I had a splinter in my pinky finger once. Skin grew over it but I could always see it underneath the skin. It disappeared after several years.

it will probably become infected and your body will reject it and slowly push it towards the suface of the skin.

Ehm, yeah. Pretty much. The body has a way of removing most foreign objects on its own.
