What happens when we run out of natural resources?

So what happens when we no longer have water due to drought? Can ocean water be purified to be used as bath water, drinking water, etc? And what about oil, and trees, etc? What happens? I'm guessing it won't happen for a couple of hundred of years but eventually... what will happen?

uh, you mean somebody is shooting them into outer space?

where did they go?

70% of all the planets fresh water is in the antartic ice cap, just take a ship down there and grab an iceburg

Why do you think that there will be an unending drought and all the trees are going to be cut down?

The same thing that happens to every other population in a closed system. We top the crest of the sine wave, crash, and start over.

water never goes away. We have the same amount of water now as we did billions of years ago.

don't tell the greenies, they won't have anything to whine about

It won't happen. Ocean water has been coverted to drinking water for thousands of years. The process is called desalinization. We are already well into the process of learning to convert organic matter into fuel oil. And someday we'll use less trees -- edit: by finding suitable replacements, necessity is still the mother of invention.

that would be true if it wasn't for the astronauts shooting their pee out into space.

drink a

now if we run out of beer, we're all fvck'd

I love this attitude🙂 Do you plan on having kids? We prolly will never run out of water but what we do have will be so polluted that it will be undrinkable...

We are getting new water all the time from outer space in the form of vapor particals from comet tails. We have more water today than we had a billion years ago.

Fvck desalinization, it's called friggin rain d00d.

See, sun heats up ocean, part of ocean evaporates and turns to cloud, cloud floats over land, cloud lets freshwater rain go, freshwater rain drains into lakes, people drink water.

So as long as the sun is around, and the oceans are around, we'll have plenty of fresh water.

Unlikely. Water is easily purified.

Trees don't matter, if we run out, we just plant more. We've got more acerage of trees in North America now than we did in the 70's.

Desalination plants work fine for purifing sea water. My mom is crazy, she thinks we are going to invade Canada when we run out of water because they have lots of rivers.
