what happens when the ink runs out?

i have a canon i960 photo printer. the yellow and black inks are giving me a 'low' warning. i have the cartridges to replace them with, but i wanted all the cartridges to run out at the same time. will it damage the printer if the ink runs out?

and the new ink is oem/generic (though it looks identical to canon's) so i'd probably have to calibrate the new colors. i want to put that off for a lil longer if i can.

I remember using an inkjet (not a photo printer) and when I print color pages with one of the colors missing, it used to look funny.

I'm not sure about photo printers though.

With most printers all that will happen is that you'll be missing colors in your print. In your case you'll end up having only cyan, magenta, and any colors in between in your photo.

With my Canon IP4000 I get the "low ink" warning then eventually I will get an "empty ink tank" type of message and it won't go any further until I replace the cartridge.

Not sure that yours will do the same thing though
