What happens to the activation part during a WinXP reinstall?

Quick Q, sorry if this has been posted before (I did a couple of searches and came up with nothing).

If I reinstall Windows XP, what happens to the activation part of it? I have already done so (online), but would I have to do it again by phone or something? This situation being without any hardware changes.
 
Without any hardware changes it should be just fine. You should just have to enter your serial number and it should activate with no problem.

 
I think you get 3 re-activations on the same hardware before you have to call MS and activate manually.
