With Wamu there are no monthly maintenance fee, minimum balance, or activity requirements. With the looming Chase conversion of my account I checked Chase's website and they're checking account requires a Direct Deposit or 5 debit transaction each statement in order to qualify. How will this affect me? Will a Grandfather Clause be in effect in this case where current Wamu accounts will be subject to Wamu rules and not Chase rules?

I've done the switch. No issues, I have direct deposit. One the best things is that if I dipped into my WAMU overdraft account, I was charged $35. With Chase, overdraft is down with an attached credit card and the fee is only $10. Then you pay it when the CC bill is due.

I'd like to find out too. I haven't logged into my wamu account for like 6 months. LOL. I just keep tabs on it with mint.com but it's my secondary bank account anyway.

I gave them back my free checking account.

After being with WaMu since they first came to Kahleeforneeya, and having banked with them for many years when we lived in Washington, I finally had enough.
I've deposited the exact same disability check in my account every two weeks for the past 5-1/2 years. All of a sudden, after the change to Chase, they want to start putting a 5 day hold on the check...I took the check back from the teller, went to my credit union, added my wife to the account and we've started doing all our banking there. (I had the CU account set up for my vacation pay when I was working...used it as a "cash hideout" when I wanted to rat-hole some money away from my wife...:p )
One of the Chase customer service people called me a few days later about this. (apparently the teller told someone what happened and it got escalated)
I explained politely what happened, she said it was the Chase policy to do this with new checks... so when I mentioned that I had been depositing the same check every two weeks for years, she pulled up my account, reviewed the history, and said they SHOULDN'T have put a hold on the check, and that she'd make a note on the account not to hold it again.

I thanked her politely for that, then told her that it didn't matter...we wouldn't be back...they had "Chased" us away.

I still have "free checking" with my credit union, but instead of the free checks, I actually have to buy them. (Costco has great prices on checks BTW)

I have a lot of money and I don't want to lose them through bank fees. Wamu was nice in that way. Chase is something else.
