What happens to hit-and-run drivers?

Last week, I saw a guy made a sharp right turn in a cross and hit another car stopping before the red light. He didn't stop and escaped as quick as he could. What would happen to him if he gets caught? The victim's left headlight was broken and probably the bumper.

Fleeing the scene of an accident is a serious offense...especially if someone gets hurt.

I had a buddy get clocked by a car while walking home one night, and the driver was drunk. The driver hit a telephone pole, got out of his car, and walked home, leaving poor Max there. The cops found the guy that hit him (cause his car was still there...), but by the time they did, he was sober. He was still charged with fleeing the scene...and that NEVER looks good.

Depending on the severity of the accident, you either get arrested or get a ticket.

I left the scene of an accident once, I had hit a car in a parking lot and couldn't find the owner. So I left my phone number and all my insurance information on their windshield. They did try to have me arrested for leaving, but the cops refused since I left all my information behind. You think they would have been grateful, I am sure a lot of people would have just drove away and not bothered leaving any information.
