I am not to familiar with the technical side of how cars work, but I recently bought a 2006 Pontiac gtx and if I turn really hard the CV joints pop, now I was told two Different things to what this could be.

1. You just need to drive it more and it will go away

2. The cv join is worn out and needs to be replaced.

I'm leaning twords #2 but on the off chance #1 is right I don't want to waste my money knowing it would have gone away after driving it abit.

1) if you don't repair it, you will probably cause lots of extra damage when it fails. So much, that the car will "go away".

It will eventually fail and you will be stranded. You should go ahead and get it fixed now, so you aren't adding an extra 100 dollars for getting the car towed to the shop. This is from personal experience.

In college, my axle fell off after i got a torn cv boot repacked and boot replaced. Mechanic who fixed it said he always recommends against repacking the joint and just replacing the axle

If you like a 15 pound steel bar, rotating at the same speed as your wheels and flopping around, smashing against everything on the bottom of your car, then by all means just keep driving it...... ;)

Just replace it. If you have any access to tools and an ounce of mechanical savvy you can do the job yourself for less than $200, maybe even considerably less.

Once the boot breaks, unwanted things(dirt, water, moisture get into the grease and the grease also sprays everywhere. The CV joint will wear out and will go bye-bye suddenly.

I just had a CV joint break while actually driving on the road. Very unnerving when hitting the gas suddenly doesn't power the wheels, it just spins half of your axle hanging out the transmission. Lucky I had a huge shoulder to park on. AAA is so worth it just for the towing.

The new driveaxle cost like $70, CV joint and all. The wonders of foreign slave labor producing our parts :)

No brainer to replace it, took me like 3 hours.

They start staying out past curfew. You see them on the street corner, smoking and hanging out with the wrong crowd. They start backtalking like yours is doing. :p

Seriously, I would get a shop to look at them. Most offer a free estimate.
