What happens to all those stolen bikes?

Bikes get stolen from college campuses, and downtown areas all the time. What happens to them, where do they end up? Is there a bike stealing mafia which takes them to other places and sells them? If so, I have only known 2 people who ever bought used bikes.

Huffy's get stolen too. I doubt anyone wants Huffy parts.

They probably just sell them to pawn shops or even keep it for themselves if it's a nice bike. I live in college town too, and there was something on the news a few weeks ago that said the police actually recovers a pretty high percentage of stolen bikes (don't ask me how), but the hard part is getting it back to the rightful owner since bike ownership isn't really traceable and the original owner rarely calls the station to see if the bike has been recovered.
