What happens to all those old magazines in book stores and supermarkets?

I mean they don't sell that many magazines, and they have to change them every month. What happens to all them back issues? I mean it's almost impossible to find back issues of some mags.

They usually send them back to the publisher and you will find if you call them up they havea backorder magazine stash they usually sell for cheap.

Depends on the bookstore. One store I used to work at (Books A Million) we pulled them off the shelf and sent them back to the distribuator. Another bookstore I worked at (Barnes and Noble) they ripped off the cover, saved it, and threw away the magazines or gave them to employees.

We have a lady at the grocery store I work at that takes away the old ones and puts out new ones.

shouldn't publishers have tons of back issues? Why are they usually so expensive?
