I have Steam, and 40 some odd steam games installed on my D drive. I am probably going to format my C drive.

What happens to those games on the D drive, when I go to play them again? They will still be there, since im not formatting that drive, but I will need to reinstall them, as well as reinstall Steam, is that correct? Since Windows wont recognize them anymore or something?

Steam games should be ok, some games will have registry entries but steam games tend to be all inclusive. If you install steam to the same folder then it should pick up each game, check it for integrity and download anything it needs.

I had Steam AND the Steam games on the D drive

Formatted my C drive, reinstalled Windows

Went to my D Drive, clicked on the Steam.exe, it said "Steam is not properly installed on this computer SteamServices needs to run with elevated privilidges"

Steam apparently installed itself again in a way that it would function

But now Steam is not showing up on my list of Programs in Control Panel, so I can uninstall it if I want to, nor does it have a Start Menu entry

You have to reinstall steam and point it via preferences to the directories where the games are stored at. I've done this a gazillion times when I lose my boot drive which is why I put steam on anything but the boot drive. I just keep installing steam into the same directory and then go into the settings and make sure that games are downloading and installing where I want them to go. The same applies to origin which will lose them more often than steam does.

I didn't need to point them to the directories via preferences, it found the games automatically. But it didn't add a Start Menu entry and it's also not listed under Programs in the Control Panel.
