What happens if you put the wrong date on a check?

I thought monday was goin to be memorial day.
I looked at the calendar, 5/29 was a saturday.... so I wrote that on my checks.

I mailed my bills this morning. Now I find out that it's only the 22nd today.
will the checks go through? Or do I have to call my bank or something?

Post dated checks usually incur a fee. Not sure who charges that fee though, the bank or the company accepting the bill.

They'll prob just go through, no one even looks @ them anymore...

I've sent in unsigned checks, etc, they just run them through...

I think he means at the bottom where the owner of the check signs. The "authorized" signature.

I wouldn't worry about the bank, I'd worry about who you sent them to.

They technically can't cash them until the 29th. If they don't go through, and your bills are due before then, they could slap you with late payment penalties.

My bills aren't due until the end of this month.

Funny thing is that my cable bill is due on the 31st.
So I thought it would be late.

But if it's just the case that they can't cash it until the 29th, then I guess it's not big deal.

and I was looking forward to a day off work on monday too.. :(

the volume of checks that are processed in this country in a day is enourmous, they will probably go through without a problem

As long as you aren't check kiting, you should be fine - at least as far as prosecution is concerned...
