What happens if you miss your connection/stop-over flight?

Has this happend to anyone?

I'm thinking about purposefully missing the departure time of my stop-over flight by about 3 days so I can stay at that destination a little longer.

You'll probably find out that they have cancelled the rest of your ticket and you'll have to buy a new one to get to where you were originally headed.

depends on the terms of your ticket. i missed a connecting flight in thailand flying airasia, and completely lost the connector and the second flight. luckily, buying a one-way ticket from chang mai thailand to kuala lumpur malaysia from the counter at the airport only cost $110 per person including taxes. and it meant that i was flying on a clean new airbus 320 instead of a really old dirty 737.

If it's a layover and not a stopover (switch planes vs. same plane), I don't see how they're going to notice or care. I just wouldn't run up to them crying saying you "accidentally missed your flight."

Aren't they going to notice when I go to check in and they see the departure was supposed to be for 3 days earlier?

What I'm saying is you probably won't be able to use that ticket (and you shouldn't expect them to still honor it) if you go to them 3 days after the departure.

Oh, they'll notice! Don't worry about that!

15 minutes....they'll get you on the next flight they can. 3 days....prepare to get bent over.

Yep. This isn't an accident. 3 days is just too much, you should call and just re-book it or ask what they can do for you.

3 days and you'll be buying another ticket

a few minutes and they'll just rebook you on the next flight

Save any headaches you will endure and just call and rebook, they will charge you $100 or so, but its better than them denying you outright which they will if you try to do what your doing.

I haven't bought any tickets yet.

Here are my options:
1) buy a multi-destination flight that gives the 3 day stopover that I want. Cost: $2600
2) buy a round-trip ticket that has a 1+ hour stopover in the location I want. Try to find a way to extend that 1+ hour stopover to 3 days. Cost: $1200

They'll cancel the rest of your itinerary and you'll be forced to buy an expensive last minute ticket to get where you are going. The price difference you list is precisely why the airlines will not allow you to do this without penalty.

The only way this works is if you are returning to a city and you get off at the connection point. That way there are no legs of your trip left for them to cancel (or at least none that will affect you.)

3 days....Pretty sure they are going to cancel your ticket and make you buy a new one. I would recommend calling ahead of time and seeing if you can make a change or not.

Why don't you tell us the places your coming from and going to, in all likelihood the prices you've found are stupid.
