Are you meeting all the requirements of the permit? I would think it would be on file just like a DL.

You're essentially fvcked. If you are driving alone, or with some other minors (unlicensed under 18) you are fvcked. Homever, in NY, if you are driving with a parent or a driving instructor, and you get pulled over, they get the ticket. When you drive with a permit, you are essentially driving with the licensed adults license.

That technically would could call for an arrest, but will most likely mean:

-The cops take away your permit
-They call your parents
-You can not get your license until you are 18 (maybe even possibly 1-2 years later if you are near 18)
-If you are getting pulled over for something else (ie: speeding) you are screwed (you'll be screwed on insurance, getting a license, etc)

If you're driving legally under your permit restrictions, it's basically the same as not having your real DL. They can give you a ticket, but most of the time they will either check the number or make you bring it in later. If you're driving illegally with your permit, then you're in a bit more trouble.

Well, it happened to me. I was 15 years old, out joyriding by myself at 4 AM. I got pulled over for driving like a moron and issued a ticket for driving without a license. The car was impounded and I was taken into custody for an hour or two, and then released to my mom. A while later, I went to court and the the judge gave me a $40 fine. That was the extent of the legal consequenses. My mom was my ultimate "punisher," because she didn't sign for my license until I moved out at age 17, when she decided that it would be best if I had a licence, because she knew I was going to drive friends' cars anyway.

Ouch. I got caught driving at 15 outside of the permit restrictions. I was going to a school function, but not to school, so it was technically illegal. The cop just had me call my dad, and he came and got the car. I didn't get a ticket or anything. Guess I got lucky.
