it says in there it will cause hallucinations, apathy, euphoria, pain in your joints, slurred speech, total loss of short term memory, etc.

I have also read somewhere that you'll die..

22 hrs is nothing to be worried about though.

you will eventually pass out. Otherwise I would think permanent brain damage/ mental illness

now that i think about it, i have never been sick, like really sick, except once. i was awake for about 2 days and i had previously gotten a cold. the cold turned into the biggest nightmare ever. i fvcked myself up by being sick and then not sleeping. yes, it was stupid, and yes, i learned from it. you get pwned hardcore if you are sick and you dont sleep.

I think you will make it. I've stayed awake for six days. I frequently stay awake for 24-36 hours.
Your body will shut itself down without external stimulants to keep you awake. Your will power isn't that strong. You would probably eventually die if someone kept you awake like in the experiments that have been linked to.

Another article.

I also remembered an experiment done on some rats, where they were kept awake by electric shocks or drenching them with cold water. They all eventually died.

Yes, sleep is absolutely crucial for fighting illnesses. During sleep, damaged cells are able to have a much faster turnover.

I've never been awake for more than almost three days straight, but the most prominent symptom I had experienced was an ever increasing sensation of heat on my skin. My head also felt heavier as time limped on. Sounds also seemed a bit muffled unless I was startled.

yeah, by the end of my third day, i was getting some tunnel hearing and seeing stars occasionally...it was fvcked up. who needs drugs? just watch cartoons for a really long time and you get the same thing, addiction free.

Long enough? You die.

how?
Lack of sleep. One's body needs sleep to survive.

I still havent heard any hard facts on what happens if you dont sleep...

You havent because studies that would involve long periods of no sleep have been deemed unethical after, some were undertaken, and the participants brain functionality were premanently changed.

Long periods without sleep does cause the human brain to stop functioning at higher levels, or so is the theory, by quite a few psychologists.

Actually it's not the body that needs sleep, it's the mind that needs it. The body likes the rest, but REM is for our mind.

There is this rare disorder that people just cant sleep, and eventually die. There has only been like 10 reports of that though. I never stay awake for more then 2 - 3 days at a time (because I cant stay awake any longer).

I had to do sleep deprivation in the army once, and it was terriable, yet funny. Slept about 9 hours in one week. Your body goes though some changes after a few days with no sleep, but I think you will pass out and sleep before you die.

Dateline had a story of a guy that hadn't slept in 30 years. He laid down, but never fell asleep. He didn't even realize it. If I remember right, he died.
