That doesn't make sense. With a gov't system, the public has much more say via the ballot box.
You forget that America is not a Democracy, but a Republic.

Even in a far more liberal nationalized system like the Brit's, you still can go out and buy private supplemental insurance.

Unless you are major shareholder of a ins company, your opinion means very little.
If you are on a group plan through your employer, you may have no choice of different plans other than finding a different job or using your take home pay to buy individual coverage. OTOH, you have little opportunity to even vote w/ your $.
How many people are going to give up accrued vacation benefits, 401k vesting, etc to get another job if HR decides one year to alter the health benefit plan not to thier liking?
In America, the only people that get the bennies you speak of are people that know how to game the Government/Tax Payers.

Most of us work for a living.

We won't pay health insurance because it costs too much due to lawyers and government.

Making people that don't want to buy insurance, buy it.
