fry's has a k7s5a pro/XP2400+ combo for $89 but no hsf. Add $10 for a Coolmaster HSF = $99. but fry's is nortorious for selling having broken/returned items. so i might not want the hassle, but rather order from newegg.

i also have a couple of sticks of generic pc2100 memory that i got free after rebate from officemax.

it seems the 8rda+/xp1700+ is the next best bang for the buck combo.

what happens if i use that pc2100 in a 8rda+?

If you keep the fsb/mem at 133/133 it should work fine. If you want to overclock, then you might be out fo luck.

At 133/133 the K7S5A PRO w/2400+ will be a LOT faster than a 8RDA+ w/1700+. Granted, with 2700/3200ddr the 8RDA+/1700+ should overclock nicely.
