What happens if I don't send Dell back their broken monitor?

In Oct 2005, I purchased a 2405FPW 24" LCD from Dell that came with a 3 year warranty. A week or so ago the picture-in-picture button stopped working so dug out my old order number and I called them up. 45 minutes of India-based customer service hell later and they agreed to ship me out a replacement.

However, the guy on the phone never mentioned sending the old one back and never collected a credit card number or payment to secure the exchange. Just said he would send me a replament for the broken monitor. Low and behold, what shows up on my doorstep today but a replacement 2405.

Stuck in the bottom of the box was a DHL return shipping label, so I'm assuming they want me to ship the old one back. Just curious about what happens if I don't? Since they don't have my CC, they can't charge me back for it. Would they send me a bill? If so, how much would they charge for a broken 3-year old monitor?

Send it back. No outright discussing fraud/theft.

I just wouldnt send it back. The only thing they would probably do is send you a letter.

They told me to keep some stuff before because it would cost them too much to get it back. However, return label included means they probably want it back.

If you really want to know I'd call Dell.

They just did that to me actually a few months ago! I called and asked the person on the phone, and they literally said "We just send those out, you don't have to return most parts" and they told me to look for something indicating that I must return it or be billed.

Anyhow, I didn't send them back their old broken keyboard, never got billed.

Because the picture still works fine, just the pic-in-pic button is broken. Dual 24's would look real nice on my desk.

Actually, I think I'm going to keep it for a while and see what happens. They don't have my CC#. Never asked for it, never mentioned returning the old one.

Even better, they can ruin your credit by sending you to collection.

normally on RMAs with Dell (including monitors of which I have done a lot since at my old job we used Dells exclusively), when they send you the new monitor it will include a return, pre-paid packaging slip in the box. Take new monitor out, put old in, slap on new packaging slip and send back.

If you don't return the old one you will be a thief. Is it that hard to figure out?

wow, a lot of high horses in here today. If they never asked for it back, why can't you assume they don't want it? The shipping alone on that thing is like $30+ and its over 3 years old and broken. What do they do with a 3 year old, broken, phased out LCD?

To the newb that bumped this thread. Return the monitor, don't be a scumbag.

Seriously? Gee, I wonder why they'd include a return shipping label.

You can't assume they don't want it because that's literally a scumbag thing to do. If you think people that think returning a broken item when sent a replacement is "high horse" then I take it you ride around on those creatures from Tremors, because that's about the most basic common thing to do in this situation.

OP is outright admitting he wants to commit fraud.

Are you talking to me, and remember I am a newbie so know I have no idea what you are talking about. I just asked a question. That is what this forum is for isn't it?

Don't worry about replies from anyone that quotes an 8-year old comment and argues with it. ;)

Lololol! OK. I will withdraw the question and my account. I did not come on here for abuse, just an answer.
