What happened with UT2K3? Does it suck? Where's the cults?

Considering buying this game. UT is what got me absolutely hooked on PC Gaming. After having AT use the 2K3 engine for benchmarking purposes, I was really hyped for it to come out.

It came out. People joyously celebrated in the streets...for a day or so. Then...*cricket sounds*

Contrast that with Max Payne. Remember that release? Woo-hoo! Every post in Software/Games/OT was about Max Payne and how cool (and hard!) it was.

What happened with UT2K3? Does it suck? Boring? Not live up to the hype? Why are you guys not yakking about it constantly? Please, share with me your insight as to this game.

Huh? Are you sure? I SWEAR I remember seeing it advertised in a BestBuy circular about two weeks ago. Maybe that was for reserving your copy or something?

Most people on the ut2k3 forums no longer trust Mark Rein. Cliffy B is a different story though. When he says something, it usually ends up being true. I'm hoping we'll see the demo soon. I played UT regularly for a solid 2 years, and I'm expecting ut2k3 to be just as good.

Trust me, I've played the beta, this is going to be the best first person shooter you will ever play. It really is THAT good, it lives up to all the hype, and the gfx are nothing short of amazing.

And considering how it looks, the engine runs great.

I've grown weary over the years of getting hyped over the next "killer" game only to end up waiting a year or more past the original release date. I've gotten to the point where I a. don't care and b. don't even read about release dates, I just play them whenever they come out and think "Wow...I didn't know this was out already!"
