I am running WIN98SE w/ 3Dfx Voodoo2 Banshee. I just upgraded my monitor to the new KDS K-700. Windows detected the plug and play hardware and identified it as the K-700 in the Device Manager under "monitor" , it loaded the plugN play drivers and it was fine. I was able to go into the 3D Blaster Banshee properties section, then under Monitor, I was able to change the refresh rate to 85HZ from a drop down list. It ran fine 1024x768@85Hz for 3 weeks.
However, recently I went to boot up. and had problems with the resolution settings not being able to set it beyond 800x600 as well as the colors beyond 256. I removed the monitor from device manager. then rebooted, windows installed default monitor drivers. I went to device manager, under monitor. It no longer said K-700 but "unknown monitor".! There was no longer any info on my system about the K-700. I was no longer able to select the correct refresh rate from a drop down menu only adapter default and optimal. I manually installed PLUG and PLAY monitor. That gave me the ability to set the resolution and color to the proper setting but it did not give me the ability to set the refresh rate to 85Hz, only "adapter default" and "optimal". I selected "Adapter default" and rebooted. Still no luck. The "optimal" setting only set the monitor @ 60Hz.
So, I changed the monitor to several diffent types of under the monitors drivers list. I selected Korea Data System VS195 or something like that and was able to set everything back to normal. My question is this.. what happened?
and Why doesn't windows detect my monitor properly????????????? It's the "K-700". It did it in the past why not now? Could it be a problem with my Monitor? Windows? or BANSHEE ? Which is more likely and how can it be corrected?
