What happened to XGI? They able to beat a 9800 PRO yet?

I remember them from like 3 years ago when i joined this site. They got anything better than a 9800pro yet? Their website dosent say too much.

ummm I think they packed up shop....so much for becoming the market leader by 2007 IIRC....they couldn't even get any market share...at all.

And no they had nothing that was even equal to a 9500pro let alone a 9800pro.

Even S3 has made some progress on the technology front, if not marketshare.

They sold off their desktop graphics division a year ago. Right now they're just working on integrated devices for handhelds, and embedded graphics for servers and such. No more video cards from them.

They consumed their Chinese office of engineering. Don't think they absorbed the company or it's IP. Just a good chunk of it's people.

ATI bought a company called ArtX a long time ago. Before the 9700 debuted.

XGI are still here. They've retracted from the desktop 3D race, and refocussed their efforts on the embedded and server markets. They have 2D-only VGA chips (the Z series) that are quite popular with server board makers like Tyan, and they also have their 3D chips available.

You won't find them on a standard AGP or PCIE card anymore though.
