What happened to this Wireless card?

The Wireless card recently stopped working on this Sony PCG-K13 laptop. The card looks like it works fine but it does not find any wireless networks in range when I know there are at least 5.

I tried updating drivers, uninstall-reinstall. Could this be caused by a virus or do you guys think the hardware is dead?

Any other wireless clients I should try?

Check to make sure the application you are using is the one in control of the card. Windows and the manufacturer's wireles application fight over who gets the rights, and sometimes for some reason there is a change in who is in control, then the other appliction shows no networks found.
There is an option somewhere that makes either windows or the manufacturer's app as the main controller. I don't remember now, and I dont have my laptop here, but it is either in the manufacturer's application options, or windows wireless options.
Happened to several of my friends.

I downloaded a Wireless Client called LucidLink and it also cannot see any Networks. I unchecked the Windows Default option also so the Widnows Client should be down.

As near as I can determine, your Sony Vaio PCG-K13 doesn't have a wireless "card." It has integrated wireless capability. It's built in to the mobo. So, it is an integral part of the system, and if it doesn't work, then it can be hardware or software.

Does it show up in Device Manager under Network Adapters? If so, what are the properties, etc. to include the drivers? There are about 5 relevant tabs to check.

The card does show up in Network Adapters and I did install the latest drivers from the sony website. Its a LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11g minipci adapter.
There are no conflicts.

OK - then what did the troubleshooting procedures generate?

Looks to me like the next big step is a System Restore to a date when it last worked. If that fails, then I lean towards a hardware problem. Uninstall-Reinstall has been done.

What does Sony tell you?

BTW - check out this thread . . .
