It was a DoS attack and the upstream provider of the AT forums had to apply some heavy filtering, which also caused legit traffic to be denied --> no connection for good folks like us.

But it looks like it's over now.

And the best thing is, a mod said that they managed to trace all the IPs and stuff belonging to the DoS guys!

Too bad that will probably not do them any good. Most of the people who do this are not stupid enough to actually use their own computers in the DoS attack. :(

We can always hope they were stupid enough though. If nothing else, it'll get rid of some of the problem kids. ;)

BOINC generally needs either a direct or indirect through proxy-connection to internet.

There isn't any support for using one computer for upload/download and another for crunching, but something like this will maybe be added later...

Anyway, with the very long crunch-times of CPDN-models, it should be possible to connect once, download, suspend network-activity, crunch for 2+ months, and upload... Some reports also indicates it is possible in CPDN to download on one computer and move full BOINC-directory to another for the crunching...

In other projects it can fail for various reasons, and also due to short deadlines it's not very practical to try sneakernetting anything except CPDN...
