Season 3 delayed, again.
(and if you spelled "Chappelle" correctly it would have been much easier to find this thread)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) It looks like the wait is going to get even longer for fans of Comedy Central's "Chappelle's Show." In a simple statement Wednesday (May 4) afternoon, the cable network announced that production has been halted on the popular sketch show and that it won't make its scheduled end-of-May third season premiere.
"Comedy Central has suspended production on the third season of 'Chappelle's Show' until further notice," the statement reads. "All parties are optimistic that production will resume in the near future. The third season will not premiere on May 31st as originally scheduled."
No reason for the production halt was given.
This isn't the first time "Chappelle's Show" has been delayed since star Dave Chappelle signed a lucrative extension with Comedy Central last August. Initially, there were hopes that "Chappelle's Show" would return at the beginning of 2005, but a combination of factors put the show in limbo.
First, Comedy Central noted back in December that Chappelle and his writing team simply got off to a late start on writing new episodes. Then, the busy comic was felled by a bout with flu. Despite various other delays, Comedy Central announced a late May premiere, letting the network dream of seeing some return on its investment, which may be worth as much as $50 million.
One of the cable network's most popular offerings, "Chappelle's Show" truly became a breakout hit when the DVD of its first season became one of the most popular TV-to-DVD entries yet. The show, a mix of sketches, stand-up and musical performances, earned Emmy nods for outstanding variety, music or comedy series and also picked up writing and directing nominations in the same genre.
