I've got NHL 2009 and I play it all the time. Why hasn't EA put out, say, NHL 2014? The graphics would be extroidinary, wouldn't they be? Maybe it because of the U.S. market where nobody likes hockey except in Detroit and Chicago.

EA stopped with sports games on PC because the department in Vancouver closed down, however they still develop Need For Speed games there. FIFA for PC is developed by someone else, not sure where they're located.

I still have NHL 09 for PC but it looks disgusting due to it using the Playstation 2 engine, I also still play Madden 08 on PC to this day, funny that Madden 25 for PS4/X1 are closely related to the detail Madden 08 PC has but Madden 25 lacks a lot of things including tackling animations. Madden 04 however is probably the best overall Madden PC version thus far.

On console I noticed the quality of both NHL and Madden series going downhill after 2010, I bought NHL 10, 11 and 12 and returned them all in less than a week, haven't touched Madden since 10 and if I ever feel like firing up my XBox 360 I end up playing Madden 09, it feels more solid than 10 does.

Because even NHL09 on PC was attrocious. You're the first person I've heard that likes it. It was basically just an update of '08 with the '09 roster, where as NHL09 on consoles had a new control scheme which wiped the floor with any hockey games before it. The PC never saw that because they never bothered... I guess because they weren't seeing the sales to justify it.

There's been an NHL game every year on consoles though, so it's no different than Madden. Not sure why you'd blame the popularity of hockey in America when there's no NFL games on the PC either.

You're right. It isn't so great. I've found NHL 2004 to have much better game play but I bought 2009 so I gotsta play it here and there.

Yea, why isn't there any NFL games for PC? Up here in Canada people would buy it in droves as the Buffalo Bills play some of their home games in Toronto because Toronto is so much larger (6,200,000 people in the metro area as opposed to Buffalo's 1,300,000).

Nobody knows. It was discussed in 08-09 when EA announced they weren't going to make any more for the PC. I'm sure there were some fingers pointed at piracy, and some pointed at lack of sales (which would be justified since they were poor ports anyway). I'm hoping NHL 2015 is good as I'd like to get it for PS4. I played a TON of '09 in college on the 360, but the following ones just weren't as good.

I don't care as much about madden, even though I like watching the NFL more. Hockey's just more fun to play.

I remember that, back then EA started earning it's reputation of today in big chunks rather than gradually as they did up to that point. They gradually killed off PC sequels of boxing, golf, hockey and NFL head coach games.

Another reason why Valve/Steam get more love than EA from PC gamers:

Wanna know why they stopped after 2009? Because NHL 09 on PC sold 10,000 copies. That is not worth their time.

There was a reason for that one though... It wasn't the same 09 that everybody else got. If it was just as good on PC as the consoles it could have done better. So they seemed to have made their decision to not truly upgrade 09 based on 08 sales.

To be fair, no one else tried to fill the PC void that EA left when they pulled out so that speaks volumes about the PC market too. Then again, less than half of their upcoming games are ported to PC. Good games of uncontested genres such as boxing or UFC should do well enough to warrant a port.
